The outbreak of
Covid-19 has had a huge impact on
children and young people’s mental health with many children under lockdown experiencing loneliness, anxiety, bereavement and even abuse and neglect.
Schools provide a vital lifeline to support their pupils’ wellbeing, resilience, and re-engagement with learning, whether
remotely or in-school.
In order to support pupils, it has to be acknowledged that the pandemic is also taking its toll on the
mental health of teachers, carers and parents. It is therefore vital to
build mental health resilience across the whole school community.
Westminster Insight’s
Whole School Mental Health Conference provides vital information for
education providers (both primary and secondary), local authorities, health services and charities about how they can collaborate to make children’s mental health a central part of their response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Government has already stepped up its programme of interventions including a
Wellbeing for Education Return training programme, online resources and continued support and
roll out of programmes to
improve school children’s access to specialist mental health support services.
Attend to improve the focus on well-being and mental health in your school community to
support vulnerable pupils, build students’ and teachers’ emotional resilience and promote effective learning.
